About me

Hi, I'm Sofia!

Born and raised in Hong Kong for the first fourteen years of my life before moving to Chicago for high school, I'm a student at Yale University pursuing a B.S. in Chemistry and Ethics, Politics & Economics. I'm drawn to the places where science meets systems: whether that be a protein's folding behavior, a disease mechanism, or a policy question about emerging technology.

My research spans computational and wet labs, focusing on a broad range of subjects including neurodegenerative diseases, genetics, astrophysics, proteomics, machine learning, and mathematical optimization. Currently I'm at the Higley Lab at Yale School of Medicine, where I'm characterizing locus coeruleus axon degeneration in PPT1-deficient mice to investigate norepinephrine dysfunction in Parkinson's disease. I also work on the PCDD startup at Yale Engineering, developing business strategy for a patent-pending medication dispenser device.

Outside the lab I consult, build, and write. I'm a Client Lead at Yale Healthcare Consulting Collective and an Online Editor at the Yale Undergraduate Law Journal. I speak English, Chinese, Spanish, and Latin.
